IMG_9905 Guess who finally got to try out the Vegan Cuts Snack Box? Lucky for me, Vegan Cuts gave me the opportunity to try and review their snack box from May 2015. If you don’t know about this special box, then you’re in for a fun treat. Every month, a selection of 7-10 vegan products are curated typically by someone pretty well-known in the vegan community. Each box subscription is $19.95 a month (with free shipping to the US) to get the chance to try products that likely won’t be in a lot of stores near you. This particular box was curated by Heather and Jenny from Spork Foods and I just couldn’t wait to see everything that was inside! Interestingly enough, I did some searching online and I found out that pumpkin seeds have some benefits that I didn’t even know about! Did you know that they are the only seed that is alkaline-forming in the body? Or that they contain the minerals phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, iron and copper? Of course these seeds are also a great source of heart-healthy fats and protein. All the better reason to eat them. I really like tahini, and I mean REALLY. There’s just something about the rich, slightly bitter taste that I love combining with sweet flavors like fruit and Bee Free Honee. As promised, this is another review/recipe post using stone-ground raw and organic nut butters from Dastony. Expect of course, this one is nut-free since it’s made with raw sesame seeds. In my house, we make it a rule to not buy any nut butters with hydrogenated oils or added sugars (no JIF or Skippy allowed in our cupboards). So, you can imagine my excitement when Windy City Organics sent me a variety of organic and raw, stone-ground nut and seed butters made by Dastony. I could tell right away that these were made with high-quality ingredients, and they come in the cutest glass jars that you can reuse later on! Dessert for breakfast that’s still healthy, full of protein and fiber, that offers a boost of immunity and energy. Of course I’m talking about a smoothie, and this is another one that uses organic acai juice from Zola as well as my classic smoothie add-ins. I know you might be wondering, “is this a snack smoothie or a meal-replacement” and that’s really up to you! You could easily split this smoothie in half with someone for a lighter treat, but personally I like to enjoy it all to myself. Tahini Espresso Protein Shake

As promised, here is the first of a few recipes I will be featuring using Mushroom Matrix’s Fit. This protein shake happens to include a few of my favorite brands and flavors all together in one delicious (and totally healthy) post-workout shake. Who would’ve thought that things like tahini, coffee, pears, bananas and mushroom powder would go together? I wouldn’t have at first but trust me, this was one extremely happy accident that I discovered. I even boosted it with some Growing Naturals Vanilla Blast rice protein, so this entire smoothie has almost 30g of plant-based protein. The added Mushroom Matrix makes it complete with an added boost of immunity, while helping fight fatigue and increase your fitness performance. You don’t even have to drink this shake after a workout, but I can promise that it’s a super satisfying treat to have after your morning gym session or run outside.
