I have a confession to make…I’ve REALLY been craving an acai bowl. Since going to Nekter Juice Bar, where I was tempted by their delectable-sounding acai bowls but didn’t end up ordering one, I feel like I’ve been missing out. Thankfully Zola sent me a variety of the Acai Juices to choose from, and I had some frozen fruit to help get me by! If you’re not familiar with an acai bowl, it’s typically a thick smoothie made with acai and other fruit. The fun part is the toppings, and you can get really creative with these. I personally love adding sliced fruit, shredded coconut and chia seeds. However, you can go crazy with things like dried fruit, granola, cacao nibs, and even cereal if you’d like (but you didn’t hear it from me). I know I keep putting this out there, but seriously have a go at Zola’s Juice Shop Contest. All you have to do is share a photo of your favorite smoothie recipe. That’s it, and the prizes are truly fantastic! Visit their Facebook page for details on how to enter. Continue reading
Acai Berry Shortcake Smoothie
What’s better than dessert for breakfast? Dessert for breakfast that’s still healthy, full of protein and fiber, that offers a boost of immunity and energy. Of course I’m talking about a smoothie, and this is another one that uses organic acai juice from Zola as well as my classic smoothie add-ins. I know you might be wondering, “is this a snack smoothie or a meal-replacement” and that’s really up to you! You could easily split this smoothie in half with someone for a lighter treat, but personally I like to enjoy it all to myself. Don’t forget to enter your favorite smoothie recipes in the Zola Juice Shop contest over on their Facebook. One of the prizes is a professional Vitamix blender, and I swear by mine when I’m making these super creamy shakes and smoothies. Continue reading
Zola Juice & A Mocha Acai Shake
If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you know by now that I am a smoothie-lover at heart. So, you can imagine my excitement when Zola sent me a case of their different-flavored acai juices to try in some recipes and give a little review! Zola also makes coconut waters, if acai isn’t your kind of thing. However, I’ve included a phenomenal recipe in this post that you can try for yourself, in case you aren’t totally sure about what to do with acai juice just yet. While you’re at it, check out Zola’s Juice Shop Recipe Contest where you can enter to win a Vitamix Blender, $200 off your groceries and a 1-year supply of Zola. Mocha Cherry Maca Protein Shake
I’ve been just a little obsessed with protein shakes lately. Ok, I’m pretty much always obsessed with them. If you haven’t gathered it already, I love coming up with creative smoothies recipes with flavor combos as unique as possible. However, I also like to use healthy ingredients I have on hand while putting a fun spin on the recipes. This high-in-protein shake happens to feature Mushroom Matrix, as another part of my recipe series this week that includes their Fit Matrix. Check out my original review of their product if you’re curious about the benefits of mushroom powders. Otherwise, keep reading on for this fun and fabulous recipe! Continue reading
Tahini Espresso Protein Shake
As promised, here is the first of a few recipes I will be featuring using Mushroom Matrix’s Fit. This protein shake happens to include a few of my favorite brands and flavors all together in one delicious (and totally healthy) post-workout shake. Who would’ve thought that things like tahini, coffee, pears, bananas and mushroom powder would go together? I wouldn’t have at first but trust me, this was one extremely happy accident that I discovered. I even boosted it with some Growing Naturals Vanilla Blast rice protein, so this entire smoothie has almost 30g of plant-based protein. The added Mushroom Matrix makes it complete with an added boost of immunity, while helping fight fatigue and increase your fitness performance. You don’t even have to drink this shake after a workout, but I can promise that it’s a super satisfying treat to have after your morning gym session or run outside. Let’s face it, we all want to get in more exercise now that the New Year is upon us. This decadent shake makes it all worth it! Continue reading
Cookie Recipe Roundup 2014
Are you a lover of vegan baked goods? Do you need more cookies in your life? Are you trying to get in at least one more dessert recipe before the new year? If you answered YES to any of these questions, then boy do I have good news for you! Even though Christmas and Chanukah have passed, that doesn’t mean the holiday cheer has to go away. Here, I have three different cookie recipes that are sure to be a hit at your New Year’s Eve party. Or, just cook these for your household and stick them in the cookie jar. Regardless, they’ll be gone before you know it! Continue reading
White & Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies
This is one of those fun types of cookies that I see all the time online or pre-packaged in stores. Unfortunately they are rarely ever vegan, which is a huge bummer. However, one thing that I have learned about being vegan is that if you can’t find a vegan version, you can always make one yourself. These cookies taste way better than any store-bought cookie that I have ever tried, and they have way fewer ingredients as an added bonus! Continue reading
Vegan White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies
First for the recipe roundup, I wanted to start with the classic White Chocolate Macadamia Nut cookie. When was the last time you honestly had one of these? I know mine was definitely a few years ago, and it definitely wasn’t vegan. This is one of those cookies that I literally never find a vegan version of in stores, and it’s a shame because they’re so good! If you happen to dislike macadamia nuts though, you can definitely sub-in peanuts, almonds, or just leave the nuts out. There’s nothing wrong with a white chocolate chip cookie all on its own. Continue reading
Chai Spice Snickerdoodles
Lastly, as part of my “end of the year” cookie roundup, these Chai Spice Snickerdoodles! I literally can’t remember when I last had a snickerdoodle. I mean, it probably wasn’t that long ago but that doesn’t mean I was looking forward to trying these cookies any less. I know a ton of people have tried this exact cookie recipe before and they loved it, but probably not as much as me. I’m not kidding, my mom says it’s one of her new favorite cookies that I’ve made. Continue reading
Maca Chocolate Power Smoothie
Remember when I said I would do another smoothie with Cocozia’s coconut water? Well, here it is! I was really in the mood for chocolate this time while wanting to keep it on the healthy side. If you didn’t get the chance to read my review on their coconut water, you can check it out here along with a bonus recipe. This smoothie ends up being a potassium packed, energizing and hydrating drink all in one. It’s perfect for either after your workout, or if you’re looking for a filling but still healthy chocolate treat during the day. Continue reading
