Love is in the air. You know, if you believe in that sort of thing around Valentine’s Day. Truth is, I really just use February as an excuse to eat more chocolate and heart-shaped foods. However, that doesn’t mean that healthy options can’t be made along the way! I came up with this Chocolate Love Potion Shake using a few of my February Favorites, which include products from Coracao Confections, Righteously Raw, and Growing Naturals. These products all combine to form a truly incredible combo, but you can easily make substitutions if you don’t have them all. Luckily, I will be announcing a giveaway with one of these companies tomorrow that you’ll definitely want to take full advantage of. Plus, another giveaway will be coming to this blog for some more products featured in this recipe in the next week. Stay tuned for those, and keep reading for this spellbinding shake recipe!
I found myself with a few extra bite-sized pieces of raw chocolate after my very recent review of Righteously Raw (you can still get 15% off by the way with the code “AHV15″ at checkout on their site. I added a square of their Rose chocolate, which is flavored with things like raspberries, maqui powder, cacao and rose hips. It has a fruity and chocolatey flavor that’s nicely sweet all on its own. As usual, I totally understand that you might not have these exact ingredients on hand but you can easily use a piece of your favorite dark chocolate bar. Just try to use one that is organic and of higher quality, though it will make just a bit of difference in the smoothie overall when you blend it everything up. I figure if you’re gonna have chocolate, you and I deserve only the best!
Something that really makes this smoothie over-the-top is this Cora Quick “Love Potion” Hot Cocoa mix. I still have yet to use it in an actual cup of hot cocoa, but I have a strong feeling it will be just as good! This mix is flavored with cacao powder, maca, cardamom, rose oil, vanilla and pink salt. Just as a hint, I will be doing a giveaway with this stuff (and some other products soon) plus a review of a ton of the treats made by Coracao Confections. However, if you just can’t wait you can always pick yourself up a container of Love Potion Hot Cocoa Mix right now!
Last but not least, the ingredient that adds plenty of sweetness, protein, and a great dairy-free and low-fat base for this smoothie…the Creamy Vanilla Rice Drink made by Growing Naturals. I’ll have a review (and pst…a giveaway too) up on the blog tomorrow where you can win your choice of plant-based protein and other products from this company. You can always add your favorite plant-based protein (preferably vanilla), however I think the Rice Drink adds a smooth consistency that isn’t too thick as many proteins might be. Stay tuned for that post, but in the meantime if you don’t have any Rice Drink powder try and sub about half a scoop of protein and some non-dairy milk for the same amount of liquid. Or you can forgo the protein and add something like hemp seeds or nuts to get that creamy flavor and protein power.
- 8-12 oz cold, filtered water
- 1 Scoop Growing Naturals Creamy Vanilla Rice Drink
- 3 Tbs Coracao Confections Love Potion Mix
- 1 frozen, sliced banana
- 1 Tbs raw almond butter
- 1 piece Righteously Raw Rose Dark Chocolate
- Ice, as needed
- Optional: cacao nibs for garnish
- 1. Begin by placing the water and Rice Drink powder into a blender and mix. Or alternatively, use non-dairy milk in place of the water plus 1/2 scoop of your favorite vanilla-flavored plant protein.
- 2. Next add the almond butter and continue blending until you get a creamy consistency. Add in the dark chocolate, love potion mix (or 3 Tbs cacao powder+1/2 tsp maca) and the banana and continue to mix.
- 3. Test for consistency and add a little ice for a frostier shake. Garnish with cacao nibs, cacao powder, fruit, or a non-dairy whipped cream if you'd like!
