Acai Berry Shortcake Smoothie

A sweet (secretly healthy) Acai Berry Shortcake Smoothie @anotherhungryvegan.comWhat’s better than dessert for breakfast? Dessert for breakfast that’s still healthy, full of protein and fiber, that offers a boost of immunity and energy. Of course I’m talking about a smoothie, and this is another one that uses organic acai juice from Zola as well as my classic smoothie add-ins. I know you might be wondering, “is this a snack smoothie or a meal-replacement” and that’s really up to you! You could easily split this smoothie in half with someone for a lighter treat, but personally I like to enjoy it all to myself. Don’t forget to enter your favorite smoothie recipes in the Zola Juice Shop contest over on their Facebook. One of the prizes is a professional Vitamix blender, and I swear by mine when I’m making these super creamy shakes and smoothies.

This smoothie is actually inspired by one I posted on this blog a while back. That one was with strawberries, but I decided to kick it up a notch with Zola’s Blueberry Acai juice and frozen mixed berries. What’s great about this smoothie is that it’s also banana-free, just in case you have an allergy or aversion to bananas. I realize that a lot of my smoothies use bananas, which works for me, but I do have requests from time to time to create some with alternatives. I also made this a super smoothie with some Growing Naturals Vanilla Blast protein powder and my Fit Matrix powder. These are both optional in terms of flavor, but they have great benefits such as protein, energy and immunity boosts.

The Blueberry Acai Juice from Zola is what really makes this recipe spectacular, along with the creaminess of the blended raw cashews and oats combined with frozen berries. I chose to add the protein powder for a little extra sweetness, though it does help to make this smoothie more filling and with a thicker consistency. Give this smoothie a try for yourself, customizing it if needed, and let me know how you chose to make it! Stay tuned for another recipe in the near future where I make an additional acai-flavored treat!
