I’m a little bit of a nut butter addict. Minus the “little bit”. However, for me quality is still super important. In my house, we make it a rule to not buy any nut butters with hydrogenated oils or added sugars (no JIF or Skippy allowed in our cupboards). So, you can imagine my excitement when Windy City Organics sent me a variety of organic and raw, stone-ground nut and seed butters made by Dastony. I could tell right away that these were made with high-quality ingredients, and they come in the cutest glass jars that you can reuse later on! I was inspired by these particular seed butters to make a few recipes that I’ll be sharing throughout the week. You’ll definitely want to make these recipes and give Dastony a try for yourself!
First off, I started with my favorite kind of nut-free butter. Sunflower seed butter is a great alternative to peanut/almond butter because you get that creamy, nutty flavor without the risk of allergens. Guess what’s in here? Organic Raw Sprouted Sunflower Seeds. That’s it! No salt, sugar, or preservatives added. Plus it’s no-stir seed butter that you don’t have to store in the fridge after opening. I find that this sunflower seed butter is great on toast with a banana or other fruit, or let’s face it…right out of the jar. Because there’s no salt or sugar added, it only takes a little bit to satisfy you. I decided to throw some into a smoothie to make my own nut-free milk and I almost couldn’t believe how delicious it turned out!
This smoothie also features some of my favorite, organic Mocha coffee made by Chameleon Cold Brew. In fact, almost all the ingredients in here are organic, which is always a plus in my book. In addition to the seed butter and coffee, I also added a frozen fig from Trader Joe’s, and some protein powder from Growing Naturals. The vanilla-flavored protein really adds a sweetness and a thickness that makes this drink taste more like a milkshake than a smoothie. Plus it’s still healthy. Who doesn’t want that?? Don’t forget, you still have a little time to enter my latest Growing Naturals Giveaway so you can make this shake with some of their fabulous plant-based protein!
With the protein and sunflower seed butter, this shake boosts almost 30g of plant protein! It’s a great treat to have after your morning workout or if you’re looking for a protein-rich yet energizing shake to have upon waking. As usual, feel free to sub in the ingredients you have on hand. However, this shake is truly incredible when you go for the good stuff!
Now, I want to know from you…what is your favorite nut-free butter? How do you like to enjoy it? In smoothies, with fruit, in your oatmeal? I want to know! Don’t forget to check out all the nut and seed butters that you can buy straight from the Dastony Website. When it comes to nut and seed butters, don’t settle for anything less than the best!
