Kiss Me Organics was so kind to send me a package of their Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder to try in some recipes. If you didn’t know this by now, I am a big fan of drinks whether it’s hot or iced lattes, smoothies, protein shakes, or milkshakes. I was so eager to try this matcha powder in a few recipes, and one of the first I came up with was a healthy, energizing and filling Matcha Milkshake. Matcha has its own health benefits such as increased energy, boosted metabolism, antioxidants, and more!
I consider this a healthier milkshake recipe because it has added protein, healthy fats, and natural sweeteners. The matcha has a nice, light earthy flavor that seems to be easier to digest with a longer lasting energy than traditional coffee. Now I will warn you, matcha does contain some caffeine so this is more of a morning/afternoon type of smoothie unless you can tolerate caffeine late at night. Who needs milk and ice cream when you can make a milkshake out of ingredients like bananas, dates, and cashews?
- 1 heaping Tbsp cashew butter (or 1/4 cup raw and soaked cashews)
- 1 cup water
- 1 Tbsp hemp seeds
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use Growing Naturals Pea Protein)
- 2 dates (or alternative sweetener)
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 tsp Kiss Me Organics matcha powder
- 1/4 tsp maca (for a malty taste, optional)
- ice
- Blend the water, hemp seeds and cashew butter/cashews until you get a milky consistency. Add in the protein powder, matcha, maca and dates and blend until smooth. Lastly add the frozen banana cut into chunks and ice and continue blending until you get the desired consistency. Add more sweetener or ice if necessary.
