Happy New Year! Since the holidays have officially come to an end, I’m thinking of ways to ease into the New Year and incorporate my favorite treats in a less-indulgent way. Cookies, pies, candy, and cakes are fun, but they aren’t always the best way to kick off your New Year’s Resolutions. I personally love a good piece of high-quality dark chocolate as a guilt-free dessert, which is where this review comes in. Nibmor was so generous to send me a few of their best-selling chocolate bars. I was so excited to try them that I ended up purchasing a few of their other bars to make this a complete review!
The company prides themselves on being a “premium snack brand catering to the health-minded female consumer who doesn’t want to sacrifice pleasure.” We all have chocolate cravings from time to time, and it’s wonderful to know that there are truly healthy options like this, where you are satisfied with even just a couple of small bites. Already interested in buying some of these for yourself? You can do that right here or save the link for later. Keep reading to discover what I thought of Nibmor’s chocolates and which I think you should give a try as well!
Guess which flavor I went for first? If you said the Original, then you know me all too well! This is made with 72% cacao that is organic and ethically traded, along with all-organic cane sugar, cacao butter and vanilla. One of the benefits of cacao (beyond the taste) are that it contains Tryptophan, which produces serotonin and makes you feel happy. This chocolate has a rich, cacao taste without any bitterness and I can honestly say that it helped to brighten my mood. I find it just sweet enough, because the beauty of chocolate in my opinion is that it doesn’t need to have a ton of sugar to mask its true flavor. Although if you do like a little extra sweetness in your life, this chocolate kicks any cookie up a notch. Check out my recent recipe for White and Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies featuring some of this delightful dark chocolate.
Next, the 6 Spice dark chocolate. I remember trying Nibmor’s 6 Spice drinking chocolate and it reminded me of Mexican hot chocolate, so I couldn’t wait to try it in bar-form. This dark chocolate even had a spiced smell, and I actually really love the kick factor it delivers. I enjoy spicy foods from time to time, and I could really taste the cayenne, cinnamon, and even the fennel in here.
Sea salt is all the rage now, especially when combined with dark chocolate. There’s something about the sweetness and saltiness that really go well together. This bar is also made with 80% cacao, so it’s extremely dark chocolate with just a hint of sea salt. If you are someone who likes decadent, savory flavors then this might be the bar for you! As an added bonus, Nibmor’s chocolate is rich in flavanols that help with blood flow and cardiovascular health. You can enjoy a little extra saltiness without the risk of it raising your blood pressure like many salty snacks you might find elsewhere.
Fun fact: I never used to like chocolates with almonds in them, or really desserts with nuts in general. Oh, how things change over time. This Dark Chocolate bar with almonds has a nice crunchiness combined with the fantastic 72% cacao. Though this bar is not nut-free, luckily it is completely free of gluten, dairy, and animal products of any kind. That goes for all the bars in the Nibmor collection, just FYI. Nibmor also uses cacao that contains methylxanthines, including caffeine and theobromine, that can help you to focus better during the day. Instead of reaching for an afternoon cup of coffee, a square or two of this dark chocolate that also contains almonds just might have you covered!
Did someone say crunch? If you remember eating those Nestle Crunch bars (I know I do), then you are in for a pleasant surprise with this Crispy Dark Chocolate bar. I even had my non-vegan dad try it, who happens to love the typical candy bars, and he said this was super tasty. I can admit that I had a bite (ok, a couple) and I really loved the crispy taste of the brown rice and the texture that it added within the bar. Something that I appreciate about Nibmor is their commitment to healthy, and ethically responsible products. Yes, this bar is going to be more expensive than the bars at the supermarket checkout, but it is made with such high-quality ingredients and no animals were harmed in the process. Something about that makes the chocolate taste even better.
The Mint dark chocolate bar has such a strong scent of mint that I wasn’t sure what to expect. Boy, was I in for a treat! This tastes exactly like a peppermint patty, except without any creme filling (not that it needs it anyway). My mom enjoys mint chocolate, so I handed this bar over to her after I tasted some. She says she enjoys having a square after dinner because it’s an excellent little treat that also acts as a breath freshener after a meal. I think this bar has the perfect harmony of dark chocolate and mint, and because it uses real, organic mint there isn’t any weird aftertaste after you eat some.
I saved the extreme, 80% cacao dark chocolate bar for last. This bar has an extreme aroma of the darkest, purest cacao that I have probably had so far. I think the Extreme bar may be for the true-chocolate lover you know, and I think they would be eternally grateful if you gave this one to them. Or if you happen to be a fan of cacao and cacao nibs, which are conveniently embedded inside each piece of chocolate, then give this one a try! I also happened to use some of this chocolate in an ultra-decadent blizzard treat. I know you’re dying to know the recipe, and luckily for you, I posted it right here!
Now that you’ve read my review, are you convinced to give Nibmor a try for yourself? Which bar are you wanting to try the most? Let me know in the comments below!
Every single one of these bars sound amazing! I used to also dislike almonds, or really any nut/fruit in my chocolate…now I LOVE it! That 80% cacao bar is calling to me 🙂
Dark chocolate tart cherry is delicious but too much vanilla detracts from the pure cherry flavor.
